Titans 2nd Major of the 2021 season was held at Woodlake Park Golf club near Newport in Monmouthshire.

Laid out on naturally undulating landscape, the course offers a challenge to golfers of all abilities. All eighteen holes, named after birds frequenting the reservoir, are different and provide a unique test throughout with the par 3 holes being of particular note.

This was a new venue on the Titans roster and one which was well received by everyone in attendance. It’s really a gem of a course pretty much hidden from view, but the views from within was well appreciated. The course overlooks the Llandegfedd reservoir, an area of outstanding natural beauty, the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and the Vale of Usk.

On arrival it looked like rain would be the order of the day but the sky soon cleared allowing a pure sunny day, perfect conditions for golf.

Being a new venue and a tricky layout, it was expected that the Titans would struggle but that was a false assumption with competition scratch being 37 points the scoring was pretty high.

With third place scoring 37 points it just showed how competitive it was, a single point separating the top three positions with 3rd going to Titans secretary Gene Lewis, followed by vice captain Andy Mack with 38 who was clubhouse leader for quite a while until he unknowingly applauded a birdie on the last by Martin Charles which would turn out to be the deciding putt for Martin to win with 39 points and seal the win in his first event of the season.

Well done to Martin with 39 points, a number which was not expected but should be recognised as an exceptional performance.

Winning the Par 3 competition was Andy Mack with the best score on the par 3 holes and picking up the pink towel for the second time this season unfortunately went to Ras Judah.

Next event Worlebury Golf Club 11th July.
